Divorce in Israel: practical questions to address
A divorce can involve more than ending a marriage. Depending on your circumstances, you may need to address arrangements for children, financial support, property division and the terms of a divorce agreement. The appropriate process depends on the parties and the issues in dispute.
What should a divorce agreement cover?
An agreement may address property, parenting arrangements and financial matters. If the parties reach an agreement, it may need approval by the competent court or religious tribunal to have the force of a judgment. Approval of an agreement by a family court is not necessarily the same as completion of the divorce itself. See the Israeli Judicial Authority guidance on approval of family agreements and the Rabbinical Courts guidance on divorce by consent.
Can arrangements for children or support change later?
Questions concerning children and support require an assessment of the specific facts and the applicable law. An existing agreement or order should not be treated as automatically changing when a parent’s circumstances change. The Rabbinical Courts explain the process for requesting a change to an approved divorce agreement.

Children, parenting arrangements and support
Where children are involved, a divorce agreement may need to address parenting arrangements and financial support. The appropriate terms depend on the family’s circumstances and the applicable law; there is no single outcome that fits every case.
If an existing agreement or order no longer fits the circumstances, obtain advice before assuming that the payment or arrangement has changed. A formal request may be required. See the official guidance on changing an approved divorce agreement.
