An Israeli continuing power of attorney lets an adult plan who will handle their affairs and how if they can no longer understand and make decisions about the matters covered. At the time of preparation, the person must understand the document’s meaning and consequences. It can address personal, medical and property matters, in full or in part, according to their needs.
How is the document planned?
The process considers the representatives, their responsibilities and the instructions that matter to the person making the document. It is prepared before a lawyer with the required training who has no personal interest in it. Deposit with the Administrator General is a separate stage whose completion should be confirmed.
Bring wishes and uncertainties to the discussion: who is available to help, how you would like daily life managed, and what should be explained about property and family needs. No single wording suits every family.

Choosing representatives: jointly or separately?
You can appoint one representative, several representatives and a substitute. With several appointees, define how they act and their responsibilities. There is no universal recommendation: consider availability, trust and ways to address disagreement.
Ask who will be the contact person, which decisions require coordination and how information will be shared. Consider what happens if an appointee is unavailable. Discussing scenarios can support clearer instructions, but does not guarantee that disputes will never arise.
Property instructions and significant actions
The document is not an unlimited authorization. Certain actions require express authorization; others may require approval under applicable law. Before instructions about gifts, transferring money or a property transaction, check the requirements and appropriate wording.
Do not rely on a general example from a website. Explain the exact wish and circumstances to the lawyer, and ask about its practical meaning and limits.
